Easter Camp at Jigsaw Barnet with Hercules Theme!

Go the Distance This Easter with Hercules

If you are looking for a creative and confidence building Easter holiday activity in Barnet, Jigsaw Barnet has something very exciting planned.

Our Easter Performing Arts Camp in Barnet returns this year with an epic theme that will capture children’s imaginations from the moment they arrive…

Hercules.

Throughout the week, children will step into the world of Greek heroes, legendary adventures and larger-than-life characters. Inspired by the heroic story of Hercules, they will explore storytelling, movement and music through drama, singing and dance.

For families searching for a children’s Easter camp in Barnet, it is a wonderful opportunity for children to spend their school holidays doing something creative, active and genuinely memorable.

A creative holiday experience for children in Barnet

At Jigsaw Barnet, our holiday camps are designed to give children a space where they can relax, have fun and grow in confidence.

Across the week, children take part in a variety of performing arts activities including:

Drama
Through storytelling games, improvisation and character work, children explore the heroic world of Hercules while developing communication skills and confidence.

Dance
Energetic choreography and movement games help children express themselves physically while building coordination and teamwork. Children may even learn routines inspired by the vibrant style of the show.

Singing
Fun and uplifting songs bring the legendary adventure to life and help children develop their voice and musical confidence.

The focus is always on creativity, teamwork and enjoyment. Children are encouraged to try new things, share ideas and work together as they build their own heroic adventure throughout the week.

The magic of the Hercules theme

Themes play a big role in what makes our Easter camp in Barnet so special.

The Hercules theme invites children to explore their imagination and step into a world of myths, heroes and comedy. One moment they might be training to become heroes, the next they could be bringing characters like gods, villains and mythical creatures to life through drama, music and movement.

Creative themes like this allow children to step away from screens and into a world of imagination, storytelling and performance.

For many children, it becomes a week full of laughter, creativity and unforgettable moments.

Making new friends during the Easter holidays

One of the highlights of our Barnet Easter camp is the friendships that form during the week.

Through group games, creative challenges and shared performances, children quickly begin working together and supporting one another.

By the end of the camp, many children leave with:

• New friendships
• New creative skills
• Greater confidence in themselves
• Happy memories from a fun and imaginative week

Holiday camps can be a brilliant way for children to reconnect socially during school breaks while enjoying something different from their usual routine.

Whether your child already loves performing arts or simply enjoys creative play and making new friends, they will be warmly welcomed at Jigsaw Barnet.

Jigsaw Youth Theatre Barnet Home Performance – Saturday 14th March

Saturday 14th March was a special day for our Jigsaw Youth Theatre students in Barnet as they performed their play Ride or Die in front of an audience for the very first time.

After weeks of rehearsals, character work and script practice, the group finally had the chance to share their hard work with family and friends. Performing in front of an audience for the first time can feel like a big step, but the students rose to the occasion brilliantly and delivered a performance full of confidence, humour and personality.

A brilliant showcase of character and storytelling

This term’s piece was a play, giving our students the opportunity to really focus on developing their characters and bringing the story to life through acting.

From the moment the performance began, the students fully committed to their roles. Each character felt clear and believable, and it was wonderful to see how much thought the group had put into their performances.

There were plenty of funny moments throughout the play, which had the audience laughing along and enjoying the story. The students showed great timing, strong character choices and excellent teamwork on stage.

It was clear that they had really enjoyed exploring their roles and working together to build the performance.

Despite the natural nerves that can come with performing, the group handled the experience brilliantly. They supported each other, stayed focused and brought lots of energy to the stage.

Moments like this are such an important part of the Jigsaw journey. While the final performance is always exciting, the real achievement is seeing students grow in confidence and feel proud of what they have created together.

A fantastic evening for Jigsaw Youth Theatre Barnet

The performance was a huge success and a wonderful way for students to share their work with family and friends.

The audience thoroughly enjoyed the show, and it was lovely to see how proud everyone was of the students and their achievements.

A big well done to all of our Jigsaw Youth Theatre Barnet performers for their hard work, commitment and fantastic performances. They brought humour, creativity and confidence to the stage and should all feel incredibly proud.

JYT will be entering into the National Theatre Connections competition on Saturday 28th March at The Swan Theatre in High Wycombe. We cannot wait to see them perform Ride or Die again and we wish them the best of luck!

Meet our super assistant from Jigsaw Potters Bar & Barnet – Steph!

SPOTLIGHT ON STEPH

Name  Steph Michael

Where are you from? East Barnet

When did start working at Jigsaw? January 2026

Which Jigsaw schools do you and have you worked in? I work in Jigsaw Potters Bar and Barnet.

What subject do you teach? I am a performing arts assistant in both schools. I also work with Megan during the week, helping her with the admin side of things!

Where did you train? I trained at Masters Performing Arts College in Essex where I gained a Level 6 Diploma in Musical theatre.

What did you do before Jigsaw? Have you had any of jobs that you loved/hated? I worked in a restaurant as a waitress whilst also auditioning for performing roles. A job that I loved and still love is teaching dance. A job that I hated was working in an office as I couldn’t sit still for that many hours.

What’s your greatest career achievement?  Graduating college, getting an agent and landing a job as a performing elf at Christmas.

What do you enjoy the most at Jigsaw? I enjoy the atmosphere and connection everyone has. The team are all very welcoming and friendly and the kids are very fun to teach and get to know each week. Jigsaw feels like a safe environment for children to be themselves, make lots of friends and most of all have fun!

What has been your favourite moment at Jigsaw? Seeing the younger kids that start off upset and wanting their parent at the start of the session to thriving, joining in and loving the rest of the session. It’s really nice to see their growth. Their confidence grows and they get braver each week they come in.

What’s your favourite show? Legally Blonde

What would be the most rewarding role or show for you to do? I would love to be a dancer in Hairspray, Mamma Mia or Legally Blonde.

Who is your favourite actor/actress?  Why? Brianne Howey – I think she’s really funny and she plays each character in each show she’s in so well. She embodies the character very well and has the ability to make you believe everything she is saying or doing.

Do you have a favourite song? What you need – Tems

If you had a film of your life who would play you? Ashley Tisdale – because I think she is just as dramatic as I am!

Anything else you think we should know about you? I have a big German Shepherd dog that I love. I’m terrified of wasps. I love musical theatre and would love to be on the West End one day!

Show Term Success at Jigsaw Crouch End

Show term is always a highlight of the year at Jigsaw Crouch End, and this term has been truly wonderful.

Over the past term our students have been working hard in their singing, dance and drama classes as they prepared for their performances. Seeing them take to the stage with such excitement and confidence has been fantastic. One of the most special things about this term has been watching our youngest performers shine. For many of them, it may be one of their first experiences performing in front of an audience, yet they have done so with huge smiles and plenty of enthusiasm. Moments like these show just how powerful performing arts can be for children.

Building Confidence Through Performing

At Jigsaw, performing is not just about learning lines or choreography. It is about helping children grow in confidence, develop teamwork and feel proud of what they achieve. Throughout the term we see students become more confident in themselves, more willing to express their ideas and more comfortable performing in front of others. Show term is always a wonderful celebration of that progress.

Join Us Next Term

While we are celebrating a brilliant show term, we are also excited to be looking ahead to our next term at Jigsaw Crouch End. Our performing arts classes combine singing, dancing and drama, helping children develop confidence, creativity and friendships in a fun and supportive environment.

If you would like your child to experience the joy of performing arts and build their confidence along the way, we would love to welcome them.

What should I look for when choosing an activity for my child?

With so many clubs, classes and weekend activities available, choosing the right one for your child can feel like a big decision.

Most parents aren’t just looking for something to fill an hour in the week. They are looking for something meaningful. An activity that helps their child grow in confidence, make friends and feel happy being themselves.

But with so many options out there, how do you know which activity will truly be right for your child?

Here are some important things to look for when choosing a great activity.

1. A safe and welcoming environment

The most important thing to consider is whether the activity feels safe, welcoming and supportive.  Children thrive in environments where they feel comfortable and included. This is especially important if your child is trying something new or attending a drop off activity for the first time.

Look for classes where:

  • Teachers are experienced and DBS checked
  • The environment is well organised and structured
  • Children are supported at their own pace
  • Every personality is welcomed, whether a child is shy, energetic or somewhere in between

When children feel safe and accepted, confidence naturally begins to grow.

2. A clear structure and routine

Children benefit hugely from activities that have a clear structure. A well planned session helps children feel secure and gives them the opportunity to learn new skills while still having fun.

Good classes often include:

  • Warm ups and skill building exercises
  • Creative activities or learning time
  • Games and interaction with other children
  • A clear start and finish to the session

This balance keeps children engaged while also helping them build concentration and listening skills.

3. Opportunities to build confidence

Confidence is one of the biggest things parents hope their child will gain from an activity.  A great class should gently encourage children to express themselves, try new things and celebrate their progress along the way.

Look for activities that:

  • Encourage teamwork and communication
  • Give children chances to speak, move and participate
  • Celebrate effort and progress, not perfection

Confidence doesn’t happen overnight. It grows gradually when children feel supported and encouraged.

4. A chance to make friends and belong

Children’s activities are not just about learning new skills, they are also about connection.  A great class creates an environment where friendships form naturally and children feel part of a group.

Signs of a positive class environment include:

  • Children working together in small groups
  • Encouragement and kindness between students
  • Teachers who help children feel included

For many children, their weekly class becomes something they really look forward to.

5. An activity that encourages creativity

Creative activities allow children to explore their imagination and express themselves in ways that everyday life sometimes doesn’t allow.  Performing arts classes are a fantastic example of this because they combine movement, storytelling and music.

Through drama, singing and dance, children can:

  • Build communication skills
  • Develop coordination and rhythm
  • Express ideas and emotions
  • Use their imagination

These are skills that support children not just in activities, but at school and in everyday life too.

6. A chance to try before committing

One of the most helpful things when choosing an activity is the opportunity to try it first.  A trial session gives both parents and children the chance to experience the class environment before committing to a full term.

It allows you to see:

  • How your child responds to the activity
  • How the teachers interact with the children
  • Whether the class feels like the right fit

For many families, this reassurance makes the decision much easier.

  • Creativity and imagination
  • Pride in their achievements

For some children, it may be their very first time on stage. For others, it is another exciting opportunity to grow as performers.

Watching children step onto the stage with confidence is one of the most rewarding parts of what we do at Jigsaw.

Rehearsal Buzz as Jigsaw Youth Theatre Barnet Prepares for Wycombe Swan Performance

There’s a real sense of excitement in the rehearsal room at Jigsaw Youth Theatre Barnet right now as our young performers prepare for their upcoming partner performance at the iconic Wycombe Swan Theatre. Week by week, the energy has been building, and it’s clear that something very special is taking shape.

From the moment rehearsals begin, the room is alive with creativity. Scenes are being sharpened, choreography refined, and characters brought to life with increasing confidence. What’s been most inspiring to see is the incredible team spirit among the cast. Everyone is supporting one another, celebrating progress, and pushing themselves to give their very best.

The excitement of performing on a professional stage like the Wycombe Swan Theatre has certainly added an extra spark to rehearsals. For many of our young performers, this will be their first time performing in such a prestigious venue, and the anticipation is palpable. It’s not just about the performance itself, but about the journey, developing skills, building confidence, and experiencing the magic of theatre together.

There have been plenty of laughter-filled moments along the way too. Whether it’s perfecting a tricky scene transition, mastering a piece of choreography, or simply enjoying the camaraderie that comes with creating theatre as a team, morale in the rehearsal room is truly beaming.

As the performance approaches, the cast and creative team are continuing to refine every detail. The dedication and enthusiasm shown by these young performers is a wonderful reminder of the power of youth theatre, bringing people together, nurturing creativity, and giving young people the opportunity to shine.

We can’t wait to take to the stage at Wycombe Swan Theatre and share all the hard work that has gone into this production. Watch this space!

Jigsaw Barnet Students Shine in 9 to 5 at East Barnet School

It’s always a proud moment when Jigsaw students take their performing arts skills beyond the classroom and onto bigger stages. Recently, Manager Megan and Youth Theatre Director Yas had the pleasure of attending a production of 9 to 5 at East Barnet School — and they were thrilled to see two familiar faces lighting up the stage.

Two Jigsaw Barnet students, Jessica and Evelyn, were performing in the show, and the team were absolutely blown away by their talent and confidence. Jessica took on one of the lead roles and delivered an incredible performance that truly shone. From the moment the curtain rose, both students displayed fantastic stage presence, energy and professionalism.

Seeing our students perform in productions like this is always incredibly special. It’s a wonderful reminder of how the confidence, creativity and performance skills developed during their time at Jigsaw can open doors to exciting opportunities beyond our classes.

What made the evening even more meaningful was knowing that both Jessica and Evelyn have grown up as part of the Jigsaw family.

Manager Megan said:

“Jessica and Evelyn have both grown up at Jigsaw, so it was incredibly special to see them performing in such a brilliant production. Watching them on stage with so much confidence and presence made us so proud, it’s amazing to see how far they’ve come.”

The whole Jigsaw Barnet team is incredibly proud of them both. Their hard work, dedication and passion for performing arts truly shone through.

A huge well done to Jessica and Evelyn, we can’t wait to see what you do next!

Jigsaw Arts Balham takes to the stage at Theatre Peckham with National Theatre Connections

Jigsaw Arts Balham takes to the stage at Theatre Peckham

Jigsaw Performing Arts School Balham are heading to Theatre Peckham in South London. Our brilliant youth theatre students have been invited to perform as part of the prestigious National Theatre Connections 2026 festival at Theatre Peckham on Friday 27 March at 7pm.

National Theatre Connections is a nationwide programme that brings together youth theatre companies from across the UK. Each group performs a brand new play written especially for young performers by leading playwrights. For students, it offers a unique chance to experience professional theatre while developing confidence, creativity and teamwork along the way.

For our Balham cast, this opportunity is an exciting step onto a professional stage. They have been working hard in rehearsals and are looking forward to sharing their work with a live audience in a real theatre setting. We are incredibly proud of the commitment, enthusiasm and teamwork our students have shown throughout the rehearsal process.

The play: Ride or Die

Jigsaw Arts Balham will perform Ride or Die by Florence Espeut-Nickless, a fast paced and brilliantly relatable story about friendship, family and the unpredictable adventures of growing up.

The story centres around a year long debate between a group of friends who are determined to answer one important question. Is Alton Towers actually better than Thorpe Park? The score is currently tied. Alton Towers has two votes and Thorpe Park has two votes. The deciding vote belongs to the youngest member of the group, Angel. The problem is that Angel has not visited either theme park yet. As a Year 7 student, Angel has not been on the famous Theme Park Extravaganza school trip. That is about to change in two weeks’ time, when the trip is finally scheduled. The group believe the debate will finally be settled. What follows is a series of chaotic events. Angel is suspended from school, Nan goes away on an unexpected holiday and Dad attempts to take charge with mixed results. Before long the children have borrowed Nan’s car and collided with a Waitrose delivery van. The adventure quickly spirals into a truly unforgettable evening. Full of humour, energy and heart, Ride or Die captures the excitement and uncertainty of growing up while giving young performers a fantastic platform to bring bold characters to life on stage.

A fantastic opportunity for young performers

Taking part in National Theatre Connections is an incredible experience for young actors. The programme gives youth theatre companies the chance to rehearse professionally written scripts and perform them in theatres across the country.

Experiences like this help young people develop confidence, resilience and a deeper understanding of theatre. Students gain valuable experience performing in front of new audiences while working together as a company to create something they can be proud of.

Our Balham cast have been rehearsing with real dedication during their performing arts classes at Jigsaw. Watching them grow in confidence and creativity throughout the process has been a joy for the teaching team.

We would love friends, families and theatre lovers from across South London to come along and support our talented young cast as they take to the stage.

Join us at Theatre Peckham
