Brentwood performing arts students Rosie and Mason!

Brentwood performing arts students Rosie and Mason tell us about their Jigsaw Journey!

brentwood-performing-arts-students-rosie-mason-blog

Meet Rosie!

“My name’s Rosie, I’m eight and almost nine. I’ve been at Jigsaw for a year now, acting and singing and dancing, it is really cool! I like drama the most. My teachers are really fun and amazing. And they teach us a lot! Sometimes I find dancing hard, for example, a couple of months ago, I didn’t know how to do the box step moves then my teacher Yas showed me step by step until I got it right.

Jigsaw is different from normal school, we don’t have strict teachers and don’t do English and Maths and all that. We do subjects I like and the people in the group are really fun to talk to. When I first got to Jigsaw, I was in the three to four years class and I didn’t know anybody. It was just me, Mason and Dyshamay. And, then I made friends really quickly.

I honestly think that my favourite thing about Jigsaw is having all my friends around me. My favourite times are when everyone’s there, everything’s going on and you can just have fun with your friends!” – Rosie, Jigsaw student

Meet Mason!

“I’m Mason. I’m ten, almost eleven, and I joined Jigsaw when I was nine. I like Jigsaw because it’s a way to express yourself and show off all your talents. I find Jigsaw really fun and the classes give you lots of skills. You can have your best times learning here and the teachers will always help you if you need help.

Drama is my favourite subject, I really love acting. Jigsaw and my love for drama is the whole reason I’ve been on TV and I’ve auditioned for shows and almost got it. I also love reading scripts, and doing the shows. My favourite show that we performed at Jigsaw was Legally Blonde.

Any challenges, the teachers will help you overcome them. Even sometimes if you really don’t get the material and you ask for help, even at break time, they will talk to you and show you how to do it. They make sure you’re fully confident with what you’re doing.

I still remember the first time I came here. I came to Jigsaw not being that sure if I was going to like it. After I came here and I met all the people, it’s been really easy. It can be scary joining somewhere new but Jigsaw is the same at every school, the teachers and games, so you sort of know what to expect. It’s amazing!” – Mason, Jigsaw student

Performing Arts Teaches You Valuable Life Skills

Jigsaw classes teach skills for life! When you think of performing arts, it’s easy to picture ‘LIGHTS, CAMERA, ACTION!’ and perhaps some jazz hands thrown into the mix. Whilst we do love everything Showbiz and we are all about having an amazing time in singing, dancing and drama, at Jigsaw Arts, our teaching goes far beyond just performing arts! Each session is packed with fun and creativity but through every activity are also powerful life skills that will stick with our students for years to come:

Teamwork is one of the biggest. Putting on a show means relying on each other – whether it’s remembering cues, creating a slick and polished dance routine, or singing as a group. It teaches responsibility, respect, and how to collaborate with others.

Communication is another huge one. Performing arts helps children become confident speakers, expressive listeners, and more emotionally aware. They learn to share ideas clearly and connect with different people – vital skills for every walk of life and an important skill for make new friends.

Problem-solving. What happens when something goes wrong on stage? You improvise and carry on! At Jigsaw, our students learn resilience, adaptability, and creative thinking – all while building confidence in their ability to handle the unexpected.

Jigsaw students grow into well-rounded individuals as well as brilliant performers!

We have classes in Harpenden from ages 3 all the way until 18 on Sunday mornings. Why not come along and enjoy the Jigsaw fun, all whilst learning lots of new skills along the way.

Performing Arts is the Perfect All-Year-Round Activity!

Whether it’s raining outside, or the sun is shining, performing arts is the ultimate, all-year-round activity for children.

At Jigsaw our doors are open every weekend, come rain, wind or sunshine– and there’s always something fun for us to do and something inspiring for us to create. From high energy cardio dance warm-ups, focused singing lessons, to confidence-boosting drama games, Jigsaw Arts keeps children engaged no matter the weather.

We believe consistency is key and that routine is incredibly important for our young performers as it gives our students something to look forward to throughout the whole year round.

Our three-term structure, Show, Presentation, and Technique – also means there’s always something to look forward to. Whether your child is preparing for a performance or learning new skills, there’s always opportunities to progress, grow, and make life-long memories.

Performing Arts is also a fantastic way to keep children physically and mentally active all year round. Dance builds strength and coordination, drama boosts expression and empathy, and singing enhances breathing and vocal control. And of course, there’s the added bonus of confidence building in every class.

If you’re looking for an enriching, consistent, and inspiring activity that grows with your child through every season, performing arts at Jigsaw Arts Hendon ticks every box.

You can book into the Jigsaw Hendon Summer Camp running from 4th August – 8th August to enjoy some summer fun and you can get your child booked into our Autumn term, ready to keep up the excitement and fun even as the days get colder.

Mindfulness Through Performing Arts

When we think of mindfulness, we usually think of it as quiet time or meditation – but did you know that performing arts can be a brilliant way for children to practise mindfulness too?

At Jigsaw Arts, we encourage our students to focus fully in the moment – whether they’re learning a new dance routine, learning challenging harmonies in their singing class, or creating a piece of improvised art in drama. Performing arts requires attention, awareness, and presence. It teaches children to tune into their breath, their bodies, and their emotions in all three of our disciplines.

Everyday life is filled with constant stimulation, that we often need a space to slow down and reconnect – not by being still, but by being creatively engaged. Performing Arts allows children to focus their energy into something positive and that sparks the imagination. And it’s fun, too!

Our weekend classes promote confidence building, and also support emotion regulation. When children are given tools to express themselves and focus their energy in a supportive environment, they walk away feeling more balanced and refreshed.

While we might not call Performing Arts “meditation,” the joy and focus of it can be just as powerful – helping children to grow not just as performers, but as mindful and present individuals.

Book your child a two-week-trial to come and join us at Jigsaw Bushey this Autumn term!

Make New Friends Through Performing Arts at Jigsaw!

Jigsaw classes encourage children to make new friends, find connections and make memories while exploring the performing arts. At Jigsaw Arts, something magical happens every weekend at our schools – friendships are formed! Why? Because performing arts is all about connection.

Whether it’s singing as a group (for our older students maybe even working together on harmonies), teaming up to create a slick and polished dance routine, or rehearsing a scene in drama, performing naturally motivates teamwork, trust, and communication. It’s a shared group experience that breaks the ice quickly – and in the most fun way possible.

At Jigsaw, we often see friendships blossom between students who might never have met if it wasn’t for their shared weekend experience with us. Working towards a shared goal – like putting on a show/presentation – gives our students a strong sense of camaraderie. And there’s nothing like a sense of achievement and accomplishment that performing arts gives to our students to bond a group together!

Performing arts at Jigsaw is all about confidence-building and allowing our students to be their true authentic selves. This also plays a big role in making friends because when students feel free to be themselves, they’re more open to connecting with others. They support one another, celebrate each other’s progress, and learn the power of kindness, encouragement and patience.

If you’re looking for your child to make life-long friendships, joining Jigsaw Arts Watford isn’t just a great choice – it’s an exciting journey that will contribute to happy memories for a lifetime.

Our classes at Jigsaw Watford start from ages 3 all the way up to 18, so our students can grow with us and continue making new friends along the way. After all, what better way to meet new friends than by sharing laughter, learning new skills, and making a bit of stage magic together?

National Theatre invites Manager Megan On Screen!

Lights, Camera, National Theatre! Manager Megan on Screen! We’ve got some amazing news to share…

Our brilliant Manager Megan and school owner of Jigsaw Barnet and Jigsaw Potters Bar was invited to film with none other than the National Theatre for their brand new promotional video… and we couldn’t be more proud!

Back in October, Megan and a group of students from her school, where she also teaches, were asked to be part of this exciting project. The aim? To showcase the power of theatre and the incredible impact it has on young people across the country.

Filming took place at the National Theatre itself, and it was a truly unforgettable experience for everyone involved. After months of anticipation, the finished promo was released in late February — and it’s absolutely brilliant. A moving, energetic celebration of creativity, connection, and the importance of the arts in education.

Watch it here: https://www.youtube.com/watch? v=aWC4P0k3xeA

We’re so proud of Megan for representing both her school and the wider theatre education community. Make sure you give it a watch — and keep an eye out for some familiar faces!
